Favorite part of my day

After years and years of negligence, I'm finally accepting The O.C. as a show to love Thank you Soap Net! Who else loves the Cohen family and friends? I already read the entire series synopsis and am looking forward to filling in the details. California. California here we come

Is there anybody out there?

I feel like I have been posting things for myself only. No new comments, no pictures, no nothing! I am lonely out here in cyberspace. Hope all is well with everyone. I know you are busy I am just giving you a hard time. :)

Swimming at the Y

today roxy went swimming at the Y. Its a local swimming hole in the smokey mtns. people come to hang out in the sun and tube in the currents. the water felt great and we couldnt keep roxy out of it.
just another beautiful day in Tennessee...

cades cove picnic sites

here are the picnic sites that dave and i looked at this morning..
The one with the nice fence is paved and handicapped acc.
picture #3 (with the building closer) i am standing on the deck with the fence. you can see how close is it to the bathroom.
the next site over had 2 picnic tables (picture #4) and was still close to the bathrooms. u can see them on the right.
all the picnic sites and walkways are a smooth gravel and easy to walk on.
alcohol is allowed on picnic sites, so r dogs. this last site with 2 tables would be ideal. larger, away from people, close to water, still close to bathrooms.

Dreams...

I had a dream last night that Laura Bush loved to watch The Pick Up Artist! Ha! George was even rescheduling meetings so she could watch it. Why on earth would I dream that? The funny part was that I was in a meeting with them for some reason and we had to put it on hold so she could see the latest episode. What were we meeting about? I'll never know....

Get Well Soon Brent!

I hope your knee surgery went well! Let us know when you get back to Brian's so we can infiltrate with 90210! Don't mix too much vicodin with the PBR's.

The Flight of the Conchords!

Well, it was a tough weekend. TN was great as usual but I was just not feeling my normal self. Luckily, Dave and Sonja have HBO and these two guys (Bret and Jamaine) were just what I needed. I wish they would come play me a private show right now. If any of you haven't seen the show yet you should check it out. Hilarious!

Life outside the NICU

So on Tuesday night I was "sitting" with a 60 year old cardiac patient who was combative and going through withdrawal. He's fine, not doing anything until about 9:00 pm when he whispers that he's going home. He goes for a walk and I went with him because he had an unsteady gait. He's asking how to get out and I'm saying that he can't leave, he's on a heart monitor, blah blah. And he goes into the stairwell. I didn't yell for help because I don't want him to get mad and get combative or anything. So we're in the stairwell and I don't want him to get mad and I cannot let him fall or I'd be in so much trouble. So he rips the heart monitor of his hairy chest and hands it to me and starts walking downstairs. And all I can do is go with him so he doesn't fall. Finally we're on the first floor and he's trying to find the exit. And at this point I know that at the very least we'll get to the exit where security is sitting so I'm not worried. But thankfully we run into someone and she finds a big dude to escort us back upstairs. My patient was so mad at me, he was like "you have a big mouth" and he didn't talk to me the rest of the night. Long story short, my hospital gown and slipper clad man tried to get away.

Make the wine

This weekend is the Wine Crush Festival on Well's Street. Duncan Sheik is playing and I'm pumped. But the best pary is that there is a wine crushing contest. This could be Mark and I if only the contest didn't cost $50! Nick wanna go see Duncan and make like a wino? Brent? You could just roll around and crush the grapes, you'd probably win!

Hey Brent!

Since you will be laying around for the next few weeks maybe we should all get together and watch the entire 1st season of Beverly Hills 90210! It would be so fun! I have the dvds! Let me know if you are up for it! Good luck next week! Keep us posted on your progess!

Millenium Manor, Alcoa Tennessee

Over 4,000 bags of cement were used, and in some places agricultural lime was used instead of sand for less water seepage. The thinnest inside wall is 19 inches. The thinnest outside wall is 25 inches. The roof is greater than 3 feet thick, and the floor is greater than 4 feet thick. The roof alone supposedly weighs 423 tons. All walls are load bearing. There are 14 rooms and a two-car underground garage, for a total of about 3,000 square feet under roof. The upstairs has 7 chimney flues. A six-story deep well is 5 feet in diameter. In November of 1943, Wright Road was widened, and the city tore down the entire wall facing the street. Mr. Nicholson promptly rebuilt it 6 feet further back. The Castle sits on 6 lots equaling about an acre, and another 1/2 acre next door has been leased. A small white frame house that currently sits on the back lot was originally next to the Castle. It was a "kit home" built to give the Nicholsons a place to live until the Castle was finished. The frame house was then moved to its present location. I am currently using this house for its original purpose, and I'll tear it down when I move into Millennium Manor.
Let's Visit!

Here's to a successful Rib Fest and the approaching fall season.

Work in the NICU

Yesterday we had a 26 week preemie baby. He was 14 weeks premature, so young that by just looking, it was ambiguous whether it was a boy or girl. (Amnio test showed he was male). This is the smallest baby I've ever seen and everytime I looked at him I was dumbfounded. His head was probably the size of a small apple. But his hands and feet were formed and were moving. Eyes still fused shut. It's pretty amazing. He's doing OK so far. This is a picture of a 26 weeker to give you an idea.
